1950's Termite Exterminator!

Our new brief is to create a termite exterminator machine that would be set in the 1950's using the technology available then, and show its interaction with a character.

Normally when I have an idea to explore for a given task I feel I work better sketching out my ideas first and then doing a research to support my original idea. And this is how I approached this brief.  My first thought was ghostbusters, because they were inspired by termite exterminators, and my 2nd thought was Barbarella and any sort of old b-movie sci fi. I really want to create something like that - a b-movie poster from the 50's fighting space termites...

An experiment gone wrong ...  now the Moon is overpopulated with mutant termites and it is up to Rosilda to save the day!

Haha! I started with poster layouts and sketches just to start my thought process. Then I picked one option and sketched it up bigger so that I start thinking about the details:

Then I did some  exploratory detail sketches on how the character would work. The image below describes the idea of the backpack that would exterminate the termites to be very stylized, made from a hard material maybe metal or plastic, that shapes the body in a very idealistic way - kind of like the playboy club bunnies in the 60s. Still no references used there are meters and buttons and bulbs, and a gun that suspiciously looks like a hair dryer.

This here is a more technical drawing on how the character would look:

Next I experimented with colour variations:

I picked number 11 - the cream and red for the final piece.
