Excelsior Marketing Campaign Research

For the Visual Storytelling module we were asked to make an ad campaign for the Excelsior project from the Character and Environment Design module.  This includes 3 teaser ads that gradually reveal an idea, a cover/poster and 2 key moment drawings. Later on we would be given a scene to make into a storyboard as well. I first researched film marketing campaigns, preferably of original properties (something that does not already have an existing audience like comic books for example).

What  I found is that early teaser posters generally start with a memorable logo often in the combination of very image of what the film is about (image on the left). The Pacific Rim Teasers show the idea of scale as well as a memorable logo with the portal of where the enemies come from. Avatar teases the look of the aliens and Interstellar hints the idea of Space Travel quite graphically. On the right I show similar things I have already done in my work on Excelsior -  a memorable logo or an outline of how the city works:

For the second stage of the teaser posters I looked Prince of Persia which is a major inspiration for my project and the look of my main character.  And then again I connected it to work already done:

The 3rd stage has to be detailed and basically reveal what the project is all about:

Instead of a poster I want to make a classic game cover  in the spirit of Assassins Creed and Prince of Persia:

The Key Moments will probably reveal  the pillars of gameplay of an action - adventure game, essentially - combat, platforming and puzzles:
